What goes into an excellent custom lobby sign design? This week, we want to draw back the curtain a little and let you see what goes into the construction considerations. A case in point is Agile Occupational Medicine.

Working with the Corporate Color Palette for the Greatest Visual Effect

Our client’s corporate color is orange. Typically, this is a challenging hue to work with. However, our graphic artist has devised ways of turning this potential disadvantage into an advantage. In this case, we proposed the design of a three-dimensional lobby sign.

A 3D Design Presents Excellent Contrast Opportunities

We used acrylic for this project. Technicians cut it in half-inch-thickness. When we flush-mounted the individual pieces to the wall, you see the wisdom in this approach. Not only does the color contrast well from the charcoal gray wall, but the presence of light sources aimed at the signage creates shadows that appear as black accent marks. It establishes the definitive border that lets the orange lettering genuinely pop.

Why Choose Acrylic for the Design of Dimensional Letters?

Frequent visitors to our lobby signage blog know that we can use a wide range of materials to fabricate these products.

  • Sign foam. Sign foam is a lightweight material that is ideal for lobby signs. It is budget-friendly, paintable, and suitable for customizing.
  • Metal. Aluminum, copper, and bronze are just some choices you might have. Recently, boutique metals such as Cor-Ten steel have come into play for new companies.
  • Manufactured plastic. When your corporate persona involves rounded or prismatic fronts, manufactured plastic is the right option. It mimics the look that customers see on your website, which is critical for building brand knowledge and recognition.

However, for Agile Occupational Medicine, acrylic was the right material. Acrylic is hard. In a way, it mimics the elegance of glass but without the latter’s brittle nature. The material works well because it lasts for a long time. Besides that, our technicians can uninstall it, pack it for a future move, and reinstall it at another location. As a result, acrylic is a great money saver if you have a short-term lease.

Installation is Part of the Design Process

Before we even select the material, we discuss the different installation options. A flush mount, as is the case in this example, was ideal for bringing out the shadow differentiation. Sometimes, the lighting does not permit this appearance. In these situations, using standoffs lets us create the necessary shadows.

Besides, standoffs give the illusion that the product elements float just above the wall’s surface. If your brand message involves movement, consider having these standoffs cut in varying sizes to give the illusion of a wave.
