The Lobby Signs Irvine team frequently helps restaurant owners display their brands. A good example is a classic sign that we did for Carmelita’s rebranding project in Laguna Beach. Recently, the company’s corporate office asked our technicians to come back and design, produce, and install one of our custom backlit reception area signs in Orange County, CA.

An Elegant Lobby Sign Welcomes Visitors to the Restaurant’s Corporate Space

Backlit lobby signs are quickly gaining in popularity. They add unprecedented chic to a focal wall. Besides that, the added illumination renders them independent of any ceiling or wall-mounted light sources. This makes them fantastic marketing and brand-building tools even after business hours when you might have customers walking past your glass doors.

Developing the Appearance of a Custom Backlit Reception Area Sign

The initial consideration was selecting a material that would hide the LEDs. The client chose clear acrylic that we treated with frosted vinyl. The vinyl diffuses the illumination that is behind the sign. We added a brushed metal panel on the front with black 3D letters. The letters spell out the name. The font is the same as what we used for the restaurant in Laguna Beach.

With the sign manufactured, our installers got to work. They mounted the sign with attractive black standoffs that echo the letters’ color. These provide the space between the wall and the back of the lobby sign to allow the LED illumination to reflect off the surfaces. The result is a soft glow that bathes the product in an attractive light.

Customizing Backlit Interior Signs

What does it take to fully customize the lobby sign display for your Orange County business?

  • LEDs. You already know that LEDs are inexpensive to operate and last long. However, did you also know that you can select from various colors and brightness settings? If you want a brighter display or one that features a color from your corporate palette, we can do it.
  • Layering. Light alone looks excellent. But when you are ready to take it over the top, we recommend layering the style elements. In other words, LEDs are placed behind the main panel. We can then add letters or logo pieces to the front, install them with small standoffs, and allow light to escape from behind these, too. Layering also opens the door to using more than one light color.
  • Timing. One of the more ambitious designs involves the illusion of movement. We can do so by changing the timing on specific LEDs and altering the lengths of selected standoffs. This type of sign underscores a brand message that favors an avant-garde business spirit.
